To make a New Dictionary Selection:
1. Choose between Click or Drag Mode of selection
With ANY dictionary selection - the FIRST thing to think about is the mode of selection you want to use - Click or Drag.
To select Click or Drag Mode - Click on the button in the hierarchy bar. Each time you click on the button it will change to the next mode.

NOTE: You can flip between these modes even in the middle of a selection if you need to select an item in a different way. You are NOT required to stay in the one mode whilst making selections. |
For more information on Click vs drag mode see Hierarchy Bars
2. Click on the hierarchy level buttons required
Next click on the hierarchy level buttons required for your selection. Selected buttons will have an orange background. Try to click on all levels you think you may need as this will make selection easier.
Example of hierarchy buttons selected. In this case three levels of the hierarchy have been selected which can be seen by their orange colour. The highest level in the hierarchy that you click on will open a selection window. The windows for the levels below will appear when you double click on a item in that window. |
To de-select a button - click on it again to turn the background grey.
Click on the required item/s in the selection window/s.
If in Click mode - then ALL items clicked on will appear in the Selected Pane. In the Selection Window a blue cross |
|
If in Drag mode - only the item you drag across will be in the Selected Pane. In the Selection Window a blue cross When using Drag Mode - a green cross will appear beside the cursor when you are allowed to drop the item. |

NOTE: Everything shown in the Selected Pane will be used at report time to filter your results. At report time you can choose to use the "As Selected" selection which will display the items as selected in the Selected Pane - OR- you can choose to display the items in your selection using one or more of the Dictionary generic selections. For more on this see Report Design |
