The Search functions in AQX allow you to find the items in the database that you are looking for - or not looking for - quickly and easily.
At the top of each Selection Box in Dictionary and Media tabs is a Search area. The available search functions are:
|
![]() |
![]() |
In all other tabs (Filter, Data Type, Demo Etc) the Search area in the selection boxes only contain a Starts With and Contains option but they work the same way as outlined below |
There is also a way to set up Auto Filters using these search criteria that in effect set up rules that update automatically every time AQX gets new data. See Using Auto Filters For Selections for more information.
The Search functions work as follows:
e.g. If I type into the search box 'coca' and click on the Starts With button (highlights it orange) I get the following item of Coca Cola South Pacific.
I can then click or drag this item into my selection -OR- I can select the auto filter of "Filter starts with : coca*". See Using Auto Filters For Selections for more information.

e.g. If I type into the search box 'coca' and click on the Contains button (highlights it orange) I'll get the following items of Coca Cola South Pacific and EcoCare.
I can then click or drag the item/s I require into my selection -OR- I can select the auto filter of "Filter contains : *coca*". See Using Auto Filters For Selections for more information.

Searches for items that contain the exact letters only that you type into the search box above.
e.g. If I type into the search box 'coca' and click on the Exact button (highlights it orange).
In this case I don't get a result as nothing matches exactly coca and thus I have nothing to add to my selection. I could however still add the auto filter of "Filter Matching : coca" into my selection for future reference. See Using Auto Filters For Selections for more information.
e.g. If I type into the search box 'coca' and click on Not AND Starts With (both highlighted orange) I get the following list of items that are everything that does not start with Coca. (see image below)
I can then highlight all items and add them into my selection -OR- use my auto filter of "Filter doesn't start with : coca*". See Using Auto Filters For Selections for more information.

AQX supports using AND/OR search functionality when typing in names in the search window. The end search will also be dependant on whether you are using Starts With, Contains or Exact search options as well.
AND (+) Search Functionality
If you would like to search for something with an AND relationship - use a + when typing in the name.
For example:
If you wanted to see items that contain Black AND Decker in the name - type in Black+Decker.
OR (|) Search Functionality
If you would like to search for something with an OR relationship - use a | when typing in the name. (The | is on the same key as the \ on most keyboards. Use the Shift key to activate the |)
For example:
If you wanted to see items that contain Black OR Decker - type in Black|Decker
