The ability to show only a specified number of ranked items within a report can be achieved by utilising the Top 'X' Ranking.
For example - you may want a report that shows the top 100 advertisers -OR- the top 5 products for each advertiser in a category -OR- the top 20 television outlets, etc.
The advantages of using Top 'X' Ranking are:
- That you can include the exact specified number of items in your report - it won't list the other items in that level
- That it will speed up the processing time of a report - especially at the lower levels of the datasets that contain the most items.
How To set up Top X Ranking of Items
- Drag into your report layout the dataset element (advertiser, category. media type etc) you wish to rank the top 'x' items of. (see 'Caution' below - 'As Selected' will not work with Top X)
- Right click over this element in the report layout rows and Select Top 'x' Ranking
- A Top X Ranking dialog box will appear (see image below) - check on Enabled
- At Top - Either type in the number of items to rank -OR- use the up & down arrows to select your ranking number
- OPTIONAL - check on Include Other if you want one figure called Other for all remaining items at the level you are ranking
- Click OK
- Finish laying out your report
- OPTIONAL - If you want the ranking to be based on a column other than the first column in your report (which is the default) - right click on the column you wish the ranking to be based on and select Set Top X Column.
- You can now process the report. Only the specified number of items will appear in your report with a rank number beside it. The column you based the ranking on will also be bolded.
