Hotspots in AQX allows for a visual colour overlay to be added to a report to quickly show the high and low data points (or hotspots0 in the grid. Hotspots can be applied using a percentage value or an actual value. They can be set up according to a number of criteria and displayed in different ways.
A hotspot can be applied to any data type.
How to Apply Hotspots
Hotspots are added into a report by:
- Right click in the report grid and select Edit Hotspots from the menu list
- A Hotspots dialog box will open as shown below. In the top half of the window are the hotspot options available. The bottom half of the window displays any hotspot options you have selected
- First select between creating a hotspot based on percentage value (e.g. highlight top 10% of spots) or an actual value (e.g. show spots above $1,000,000) by clicking on the radio button beside your Percentage or Value
- From the first drop down box select the data type this hotspot is to apply to.
- In the From and To box - either enter the From and To value manually - OR - drop down the window to select Minimum &/or Maximum.
- In Apply to -select how you want the hotspot to be displayed. The choices are to colour the Background of the cell, the Text of the cell or the Border of the cell.
- A default colour range of white through to red will be displayed in these Apply to boxes and in the Preview bar below. If you wish to change the colour scheme - drop down each Apply To box and select 'Colour Select...'. This will allow you to select your own colour scheme which will then be displayed in the Preview box. To select a colour click on it and hit OK.
- Next you need to decide if you want your hotspots range to apply universally across the whole grid (Hotspots - Universe) - OR - apply a hotspot range in each row (Hotspots - apply across each row) - OR - apply a hotspot range in each column (Hotspots - Apply across each Column) by clicking on the appropriate radio button.
- Click the Add button. This will display the hotspot selection criteria in the bottom half of the window.
- Repeat steps 3 - 9 for any other hotspot options as required - for instance you may want one across rows in red and across columns in green.
- Then Click OK.
Other Hotspot Options available:
There are 3 options also available in the Hotspots dialog box available.
Show Data Bars - graphically proportions the background colour based on the value rather than highlight the whole cell.
For example - if I had chosen to show background colour for the minimum to maximum percentage to apply across columns it may look something like this:
Show Single Highest Value - This will highlight only one cell - the one with the single highest value.
Show Single Lowest Value - This will highlight only one cell - the one with the single lowest value.
